Hostel for workers

You’ve booked a shared room and you’re ready to make new friends. You go out with your new buddies, have a great time, share common interests, and it seems like you’ll be friends for life. But unexpectedly, the next morning, those new friends don’t talk to you and avoid eye contact. You wonder if you did something wrong? Well, it’s quite likely that you broke some unwritten rules that need to be followed when staying in a shared room.

In such a room, there are from four to even thirty people sleeping. Different people, with different preferences, lifestyles, habits, and problems, but rest assured that no one likes to be woken up in the middle of the night by drunk people returning from a party.

  1. „But how, this hostel offers a pub crawl, people should be prepared for such situations. Besides, it’s a hostel!” Yes, people choosing to stay in shared rooms usually know what to expect, but it’s not an excuse to vomit into the pillowcase. People don’t want to hear it, and most importantly – smell it or see it right after waking up.

Don’t get me wrong, party all you want and go wild, but be consistent. If your plan from the very beginning was to „destroy yourself,” then be responsible and book a private room, or even better, go to an „party hostel.” In such places, roommates shouldn’t have any complaints against you even if you mess up the whole room or have minor nighttime problems. In other hostels, it’s unacceptable.

  1. Let’s stay on the subject of behavior during quiet hours. Officially, in most hostels, it starts at 10 pm, but unwritten rules usually say midnight. After that time, the light in the room should be turned off. If you need it to read a book, there is usually a small night light near or above your bed. Use it, but also with discretion. Don’t shine it in other people’s eyes. Personally, I encourage you to buy a Kindle with a backlight. Your roommates will appreciate it (and you won’t have to carry all the volumes of „Game of Thrones” in your backpack).
  2. Dimmed light also means no phone calls, Skype conversations, or watching TV shows without headphones. No matter how good music you listen to, whether it’s the hit of hits like „Old town road,” your roommate may have been listening to it non-stop for the last week and is simply fed up with it.

Some may say, „but it’s obvious!” But let me ask you, how many times have you seen a person (even on a tram) with JBL hanging from their shoulder, playing „Tamagotchi, Tamagotchi, Tamagotchi, Tamagotchi”? Even when using headphones, make sure you haven’t turned the volume to the max because at night even a small buzzing can deprive someone of sleep. A mosquito doesn’t have to bite you to have a sleepless night, it’s enough that it flies near your ear.

  1. Speaking of mosquitoes, it’s summer, and their invasion is lurking just around the corner. Remember to close the window at night…
